Alive and Well

I realized the other day that I really do want to keep blogging, I just keep finding "better" uses of my time. So, instead of waiting for pictures to come off the camera, or for hours of quiet (or even a few minutes) I thought I'd write up a quick post while my girls are doing science and the boy is stretching on the floor.

I finished my shawl/stole recently. Umm... some day last week, so it only took me about 12 weeks (as I started it right before the little tomato was born and worked on it a bit in the hospital). That's right, he's now 12 weeks, and will be officially three months monday-ish. I still haven't blocked the thing, and I might not, but I will take some pictures sometime and put them up here.

I also finished one of my socks that I started after he was born. It only took me about 5 weeks to do one sock, so far the second one is taking me longer, but that's okay, at least I'm knitting again. I hope, sometime this weekend or next week to spin for the first time since his birth also.

This week we went strawberry picking (with the help of my mom and sister) and then spent a day and half making jam. The girls were so excited, and I was able to mostly work around little tomato's naps (with a little help of daddy holding him). It felt really good to do those things and to taste the fresh berries and the super fresh jam. (We opened one jar right away and I ate some that night - the same day we had picked the berries).

I'm also about to start a pair of socks for the sweet husband - he's questioning whether he wants toe socks, monkey socks, or a combination - but first comes swatching... maybe during the next nap :)

Busy busy busy

I got my birthday swap package. (Thank you Eileen!) My package to her can be seen here.

(not pictured here, two chocolate bars that were fairly quickly eaten)

Spring is coming... or maybe even here these days.

I am still knitting a little bit.

This is some mohair I got from a Swap (from Sue) and I found an easy stole/shawl pattern and worked a couple of rows and then brought it with me to the hospital. I actually did work on it some there (when someone else was holding the new one, or when I just needed to do something yarny or go nuts - new babies sleep a lot, me? not so much while in the hospital)

Other than that I've been

Just

...a little...

busy!

(pictures at 3 days, 2 weeks, and 3 weeks respectively, yes that is the baby surprise jacket I made for him. I normally don't post pictures of the kids for their current and future safety and privacy, there will be an exception for a few more months of baby pics I think before he'll go undercover. We're thinking about a blog-name for him. ...leaning towards 'Tomato' due to the glint of his hair - any better ideas?)

A New Family Member

A new little baby has joined our family. He was born on Monday and we came home today. He has decided to try to sleep through his first hours being home with big sisters. He is very sweet and cute and was just a bit over 8 lbs and a full 21 inches long. If you're part of the family and haven't seen pictures yet, send a quick email! More general pictures of him (in his knitted items of course) to follow sometime over the next week... after I sleep of course.

Z is for...

ummm... zero?
nope, I've done more than zero things, and I'm not at zero hour (for the baby). I haven't been to the zoo, or seen a zebra lately. Well, I'll tell you what I have been doing, and then you guys can come up with a Z....

I finished a couple of pairs of booties.

I also finally took a picture of Curly's baby knitting. She does know how to knit. She prefers that I hold the yarn and she just manipulates the needles. She also had me do most of this while she watched (but it was her project and her present for the baby).

I also have taken all the leftovers from the booties and I started a Baby Surprise Jacket. I guess there's my Z - since it was designed by Elizabeth Zimmerman. I haven't done one before, and I'm following both the pattern, and the spreadsheet put out by Webs. I'm just a handful of rows in, so no picture yet... soon.

We had a trip to Ikea yesterday, where we purchased a new dresser for Lily (she and Curly had been sharing a large dresser, which Curly will now share with the new baby). We also got a new chair for sweet husband, and a handful of other small things. It was a slightly long drive, but as the girls were not with us for it, it was enjoyable. Good adventures were had by all.

I'm slowly working through my list of things to be done. If I can keep on schedule then I'll be done within the week... of course, things keep getting added to it, and I could have the baby any time, so I'm not sticking just to the list. And time spent knitting is time when my feet are up and my body is resting, right? We moved most of my stash out of our room to make room for a cradle. I saved a large bag of yarn for projects out of that, and then of course, my husband informed me there might have been a moth upstairs - at least there might have been in a batch of laundry he just did that had been stored up there (where we just moved my containers of yarn and fiber). All should be well, they are mostly stored with great caution, but I might have to make sure this week that they are safe before I try to forget about them for a couple of months.

...back to knitting.

Y is for...

Yarn!

Back on November 23, there was a contest that was won by Heather. When she was local during New Years she looked through my stash and chose some blue goat that was waiting to be spun.

Just the past week she received her new yarn:

The specs are on Ravelry, for length and weight and such.

I also spun a bit more of the Alpaca, and I'm looking into the possibility of sending the rest off to be processed.

The girls thought taking pictures of the pregnant mommy spinning sounded like fun, that's one that Lily took.

Y is also for YAHOO!!

I finally not only finished knitting the MS3 (Swan Lake Stole), but managed to block and weave in ends...

So now, it is completely finished:

Y is also for Yet another Baby Knit!

I managed to finish the blue hat (to go along with the pink one that WyeSue sent) so the baby is now covered either way.

These first pair of booties is done, as is an light orange pair, and a green pair is about a 1/3 of the way being done.

I have a whole list of things around the house I'm trying to get done in the 20ish days I hopefully have left before the baby comes. (Things like filing away bills, moving my small stash and setting up the craddle, catching up on mending, cleaning the girls closet so they can play with toys again and I can get the baby clothes down from the shelf in there...etc) I have finished all of my big knitting projects that have been hanging over my head, except for the slippers for my husband, which he said might as well wait until next year. These tiny bits of knitting is all that is happening right now, although I really want to start a sock. Maybe before I move my stash I'll pull out yarn for a pair or two of socks and maybe a couple other things to work on later (when I start getting sleep again, but can't move my stash back yet due to said craddle being right there).

Hopefully I'll be posting a couple of times before the baby comes, we'll see. But I will make sure to let you know if it's a girl or boy at some point! ...maybe early April ;)
